Like our initial 2020 Nicholas Pinot Noir release, the purpose behind the 2021 Nicholas Reserve was to select our favorite barrels from 2021. The make-up of the reserve is intended to be dark, rich, earthy, and with a multitude of complex layers that will take time and patience to coax out. The new barrel that is a part of this blend is crafted to be a little more expressive, and requires a wine that has similar charisma to be able to hold up to it. Together they can reach outstanding complexities and textures. For the 2021 vintage we used about 1/3 whole cluster during fermentation, providing additional depth of flavor with earthy aromas and smooth tannin on the back end. Our 2021 release includes clones 667, Pommard, and 113, providing a beautiful balance of structure and complexity.
